South Carolina Disc Golfers will soon have a chance to qualify for the most prestigious disc golf tournament in the world. The Upstate Disc Golf Club located in Greenville, SC and DISConcepts disc golf are proud to announce the qualifying event for the USDGC will be held at a new temporary tournament course in Greenville County at Lakeside Park. The South Carolina Championship Open (SCCO) will be a one day event held on September 8th 2007 in Greenville South Carolina and will play host to the SC state representative spot for the United States Disc Golf Championship held in Rock Hill South Carolina in early October. The goal is to promote the game of disc golf in Greenville County and the State of South Carolina with the winner of the SCCO receiving a full ride to the National Championships in STYLE! Many of the details are still coming together but those attending can expect a longer strategic USDCG type course and a tournament loaded with southern hospitality. The event will be open to all current South Carolina residents regardless of division, age, sex, or ability. If you would like to try and qualify, we would like to have you! Follow this thread for more information, check out www.scdgo.net soon for updates, check out www.upstatedgc.com for updates, check out www.disconcepts.com for updates.

Here are a few items about the event. The flyers will be posted within the week.

-Zack, Pat, Sam, Mark, and myself have mapped out a variety of layouts for a temporary tournament course at Lakeside Park on hwy. 20 (Piedmont hwy) 1 mile south of I-85. The final layout which is still being decided will play between 7200’ – 7800’ and will have a par of 62 – 66.

-2 rounds of 18 holes will be featured for the South Carolina Championship Open

-LOWEST SINGLE ROUND SCORE WINS USDGC SC Full Ride!!!

-Entry fee will be $30 and there will only be one payout (to the winner)! Final details will be posted soon but here is what the plan is now… Assuming 50 players. A $1500 prize pool. The winner will receive entry paid into the USDGC ($200+), Hotel for the week (5 days $300.00), food and gas allowance ($300), misc ($200) for a total of $1000. The winner of the SCCO will receive a check for $1000. If for some reason the winner cannot attend the USDGC they will give the $1000 check to the next lowest score (person not already playing) and down the line until we have someone who will commit to playing. The remaining entry fees will go towards a pool of prizes that will be part of CTP’s and drawings. We are looking for ONE winner and LOT’s of festive entrants. If the entries are below 34 players the winner will only win the total players entry and other prizes will be from a donated pool.
ONE DIVISION – ONE CHAMPION – ONE PAYOUT

-I am asking that all club members bring a potluck lunch item to share with everyone. Please help feed our guests from out of town and spend some time meeting local disc golfers. Hopefully we will have so much food that we will have some left for when we are done playing. Bring something to share with 20 – 40+ players

-The main FOCUS of this event is to find a South Carolina resident to represent our State at the United States Disc Golf Championships October 2nd – 6th 2007 in Rock Hill, SC

-The main GOAL of this event is to send that representative in style to the event with the $$$ needed to cover all of their expenses.

-The main REASON for this event is to have FUN! Please come have FUN! We are encouraging ALL disc golfers to come take a shot at this great course and possibly shoot the lowest round of the day. We are looking for SC disc golfers who want to win an invitation to the most prestigious disc golf event in the World. We are looking for golfers who want to play a sweet new course, eat a bunch of food, and support the winner as our representative, regardless of score. We want you!

-I am still working out the details of the course, but hope to install the temporary layout at least a few days before the event. Over the next few weeks I hope to have the layout marked with flags and tape. Maps will also be available soon.

-If you are interested in playing or volunteering send me an email to disconcepts@charter.net (best way as I am quite busy) or call 864-270-3723 if needed. Look for a flyer SOON and postings at our local courses.

This sounds like a great event and I think I am going to give it a shot. I am looking forward to playing this temporary course. Any possibilities of becoming a permanent course?

Um, that is def not the logo of the Upstate Disc Golf Club on the flier.

We'll get a better one to use for fliers and promotional stuff.

Sorry but the targets will not be up until the Friday before the event. You can still practice however as all tee areas and target locations have been marked with small orange flags. The course starts and finishes at the large concrete silo. And yes, my computer skills are not one of my strong points. I would much rather work on courses than computers.

Dear Pat Farrell and all who helped with the USDGC Qualifier:

Thank you for putting on an excellent tournament this past weekend. That temporary tournament course in Greenville County at Lakeside Park was awesome! I sincerely hope we can work with the parks department to make a permanent course there in the future. The tournament you hosted there was the perfect qualifying event for the USDGC, as it was a long and challenging course! Congratulation to Zack "Cuban" Rogers for shooting the best round and winning the spot to represent South Carolina the United States Disc Golf Championships. The money we raised at your tournament will help Zack to do his best at the USDGC this October. Thanks to Sam and Zack and all who helped with the babecue lunch, it was great! Farrell, you are an excellent catalyst for the growth of disc golf in Greenville. Thank you for all your hard work and vision. We all had a great time. Go Zack!

Cuban,

If you're still looking to head for Rock Hill Sunday, what time are you looking to head out?
