Well it is finally here, the flyer that is. We are now taking registration for the Hub City Challenge in Boiling Springs, SC. All the Preregistration Info is in the flyer. This event will be the first sanctioned event at Va Du Mar so we are hoping for a good turnout and everyone having a good time. Since the event will be in late July, and the weather will be hot, all divisions will play the Long tees in the morning and then the Short tees in the afternoon. Entry fees are $54 for Pros and $24 for Amateurs. Non PDGA Members add $10 to those entry fees. For the pros, $50 from each entry is going into their payout. Every AM will receive a nice players pack. If things play out ok then the players pack will include the following (Crystal Buzz with tournament logo, Team Over The Top microfiber towel and a Mini Marker with the Club logo on it). If you have any questions or comments please do not hesitate to send your feedback, either through the forum or by calling or emailing me. As this is my first event I am open to any and all suggestions. If you are out on the course and see some course maintenance that can be done, before the tournament, let me know so we can get the course in the best shape possible. So I hope to see everyone out there and let me know if you have any questions. Below you will find a link to the flyer.

Thanks Jeremiah. If you are able to make it up on Sunday then the best time would be during the morning or later evening. Most of the holes provide a lot of shade and play in the woods. Once you get to hole 11 it is open and not much shade at all. Holes 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 are pretty much in the open. _________________ If you huk it....it will fly

Any chance of offering a Junior Division and Rec. Women division? If so, I'll sign up the family tomorrow. _________________ Jay Phillips |

I just realized the tournament was on the same day as the Snoop Dogg concert in Atlanta. I already bought the tickets plus we're talking Snoop here. Kind of a no brainer. Good luck with the tourney. Hopefully I can make it up that way to play the course again. I hear it has gone through some great changes. I played it last year on my way to the Charlotte Open. _________________ Jay Phillips |

******FORMAT FOR THE HUB CITY CHALLENGE******
Pros and Advance Men will be playing Both Rounds from the Pro Pads.
All Other Divisions will be playing from the AM Pads.
Originally we were going to do 1st round Pro pads and 2nd round AM Pads. After talking to many of the Pros, as well as other players, we figured it would be more fun to change it to this format. A lot of Pros did not want to play the AM Pads and vice versa. _________________ If you huk it....it will fly

And I've spent the last month practicing from the longs so as not to embarrass myself too much with my first round score...
It's a good change tho, I do like a lot of holes from the longs but some are really difficult and may have turned some rec players off signing up. I just spoke to Fran and he will most likely be there now.
Really looking forward to this tourny and will be there Monday to practice the shorts! Heard there was some trimming going on on #11 so drives can actually make it more than a few feet up the opposite side. Any clearing done on the left side of that fairway or should I bring tools? --lost a blue Pro Teebird there 2 weeks ago as well. _________________ throw far, fly straight |

The left side is pretty well trimmed. The right side does need some trimming, if they have not done it yet. It should be trimmed up before the event. I have not found any discs out there lately. I will keep my eyes open. _________________ If you huk it....it will fly

I wanted to thank everyone that came out and supported the Hub City Disc Golf club and enjoyed what was an interesting tournament. Being that this was my first ever TD experience I have learned quite a bit. In some areas I was not completely prepared but in other areas we were. I hope that everyone had a good time if anything.
Some highlights from this event:
We had 14 Pro Open players and 4 Pro Masters Players.
$900 was paid out between 8 Pros total. 1st Place Pro Open (Chris Howard) took home $230. 1st Place Pro Master (Mark Muren) walked away with $175.
We had quite a big Amateur turnout (39) which was split up amongst the different AM divisions.
We also have a new course record (52) shot by Buddy Tritt (from Charlotte) in the second round.
Mark Beasley hit the Ace Pool. Hole #9 2nd Rd and collected $64.
I wanted to thank everyone who helped out in any way possible.
Thanks to Cuban for helping me figure out the scoreboard, providing water and giving me advice for future events.
Thanks to E-Rock for assisting me with scorecards and also picking up the tee signs.
Thanks to David Smith for placing the water on the course and also for all of his hard work doing course maintenance.
Thanks to Aaron and David Cunningham for assigning the 2nd Rd CTPs.
Thanks to the Charlotte crew that helped with tee signs also.
Well the scores are up, the ratings are available. This wraps up the first annual Hub City Challenge. I am willing to take any advice or critiques that anyone may have. _________________ If you huk it....it will fly

Even though I live in Simpsonville, I had never played at this course before. What a mistake! This has to be one of the top 3 courses in this state. It still requires some grooming, which will come with time, but requires a variety of shots and different discs. Often I'll use the same driver on almost every hole at other courses, but not Va Du Mar.
As far as the TD'ing goes, it seemed to go flawlessly. I have attended at least one other tournament in this state and every year, the "experienced" TD of that tourney will take 30 minutes (or longer) going over every detail about the holes, instead of simply putting those instructions on a printed handout like Chad did. The players' meeting was short and to the point. I like that this tourney was only one day, but this great course is also in need of a 2-day event at some point. It's also rare in these parts to have "trophy only" tourneys, which I like, or the sweet players' package that Chad had. It was also nice to FINALLY get a Discraft disc in this area! Anyway, keep up the good work Chad! |

Thanks for the positive words. I am not the greatest public speaker so I was quite nervous for the opening Players Meeting. Also I was a little impatient with the timing of the first round, not allowing every player to make it in to hear the meeting and such. But that is what running an event will do, allow you to learn from your mistakes. Overall it was fun to do and it was successful. I look forward to putting on another event and I hope that everyone had a good time. _________________ If you huk it....it will fly
