I have just been informed of a doubles on Sundays at 2pm.

This is a rotating event.

First Sunday of month is Toccoa, @nd Sunday is Timmons, then Easley, then Seneca.

This Sunday is Seneca.

You should get in touch with Nathan and see about adding Greer into the mix until they close the course down, for renovations. I think by excluding courses and such will start alienating the different areas and cause some friction. Just a thought.

much appreciated Chad, but don't exclude Boiling Springs, either........... Why they would hold it between states instead of intrastate is beyond me....

Any feedback on how this is going? How many people are showing up?

I haven't been to any myself and I wasn't involved in the development/implementation of the idea; but I assume it was something proposed by SC, as well as N. GA disc golfers...hence the most convenient courses are the ones involved in this rotation. In regards to inserting more courses into the rotation; there are usually only 4 Sunday's a month...

Future schedule, for clarity's sake:

Nov 11th - Timmons
Nov 18th - Easley
Nov 25th - Seneca
Dec 2nd - Toccoa
Dec 9th - Timmons
Dec 16th - Easley
Dec 23rd - Seneca

Here is my dilemma with the whole Doubles. Now I am not trying to cause any hard feelings or anything like that. My biggest issue is that this the "Upstate" Disc Golf Club instead of the Upstate and Georgia Disc Golf Club. So how come we are including Toccoa into the mix? I know they support the Seneca doubles from time to time and have made it to a couple of Timmons Doubles but if this is the Upstate Club then the courses involved in the Upstate should be the ones included. Also with the addition of the doubles could possibly thin things out. Granted the Boiling Springs course has seen no turn out in recent weeks but having the Singles on Saturday, our Doubles on Saturday also, Sunday Doubles could really thin out any attendance. Just some thoughts but in order to strengthen the Upstate Club we should be focusing on the Upstate and not worry about Georgia. Again their are no hard feelings and I know that we support Toccoa's club and the same in return but I feel the main support needs to come within the Upstate.

Chad,

I don't think this rotating doubles stuff is a udgc sponsored event. I assume it started with Toccoa and Easley/Seneca. Then carried over to Timmons. But this is just my opinion, I first heard about it by Zack when he told me to post the info online. I have yet to make it out to any of these.

While I do see your point, Chad; this whole doubles thing isn't a specifically UDGC organized event. It's the offseason right now and it's just a bunch of disc golfers getting together to huck plastic. That's it.

Regarding trying to boost turnout for regular events at Boiling Springs, Greer, etc... I agree that schedules need to be coordinated within the UDGC to maximize potential turnout within our membership, but these courses are spread out and there aren't too many people who will be willing and/or able to make the trek on a regular basis. In the longrun, the best way to increase turnout in these outlying areas is to recruit new golfers who are local to those areas. This is something that is in the club's best interest and it should assist with (by having events at these courses and by spreading the word in those areas...advertise).

But to put it in perspective; How many years was Timmons in the ground before we even had organized doubles? And how many more years before we had a solid turnout? It's just now, about 6-7 years later that it is even really taking off. These things take time, but they can progress more quickly with organized action and with a plan.♦

I believe this is being blown a bit out of proportion. First off I understand that this is not a UDGC sponsored event. Also my goal IS to get more local interest for Boiling Springs and to do so I am holding the weekly Saturday Doubles event to accomplish that. But in order to get local interest it would be nice to see some attendance from the other areas. If locals see that people are willing to travel and play then those locals are more willing to come out on a more frequent basis. I understand that everyone can not make it out every week or to every event but if someone from Easley is willing to drive to Toccoa or someone is willing to drive from Greenville to Seneca then they should be able to come up and support a new course that is in need of some publicity. When Timmons was installed it was the 1st course in the Upstate. So in the beginning there would be few people. Since it's addition we have seen more courses added to the area. With that addition we have had more and more people introduced to the sport and those who come out and play on a regular basis. But we are more established now than when Timmon's was first installed and we need those people, who are interested, to come out and support a course that is in its infancy and help promote it to this area.

More of the West Upstate players (Easley & Seneca) are more tied to Toccoa than to either Greenville and/or Greer or other upstate courses. Maybe a way to promote your events in Boiling Springs is to show up to doubles in Easley and Seneca and invite their local players to your events.

If you live in Seneca like I do it is a half hour drive to Easley and to Toccoa. It takes me 45 minutes to get to Timmons and even longer to get to Boiling Springs.

And for those of us with family, we only have so much time away from the wife and kids that we can manage.

The next Toccoa Sunday dubs on March 2 is going to be a Safari round.
We did this last year and it went over very well. So, bring your gun and have some fun. See you all soon. - John
